How do I design a website that works in both English and Arabic?

Last Updated: Nov 8, 20261 min read

A bilingual website needs more than translated text. Arabic reads right to left, so layouts, navigation, icons and alignment need to mirror. Fonts must suit Arabic, and spacing and line height may differ from English.

Plan the language structure early: separate URLs for each language, a visible language switcher and hreflang tags so search engines show the right version. Content should be written natively, not machine translated.

Test both versions on mobile and desktop to catch layout issues, especially with long headlines and forms.

A bilingual design checklist:

  • Mirrored layout: right-to-left flow and alignment
  • Arabic typography: clear, modern fonts
  • Language switcher: easy to find on every page
  • Native copy: written by Arabic speakers
  • Separate URLs: clean paths with matching pages
  • Testing: review both versions on real devices

Our logo design company in Dubai plans for both languages from the start, supported by the ecommerce website development company in Dubai team.

Pro Tip

At Awrange, we design the Arabic version in parallel with English, not afterwards. It avoids squeezed layouts and saves rework.
